Time for the Liberals and NDP to Unite — Sign the Petition

Image
Sign the Petition For years, the Liberal Party and the New Democratic Party (NDP) have shared common progressive goals: fighting for affordable healthcare, combating climate change, advancing workers' rights, and building a more inclusive and equitable society. However, the constant division between the two parties has allowed the Conservative Party to repeatedly win elections, often pushing policies that run counter to the values of the majority of Canadians. This petition calls for a bold and historic step: the merger of the Liberal and NDP parties into a single, progressive political force that can unite to address the biggest challenges of our time. By joining together, these two parties could form a government that reflects the diverse, inclusive, and forward-thinking nation that Canada is meant to be. The Polls Signal It's Time According to the current CBC polls, the Conservative Party of Canada holds a nearly 20-point lead in the upcoming 2025 Federal election. To an ou...

Donald Trump Threatens to Crush Canada's Economy with Tariffs—And Danielle Smith Agrees?

Image
Nothing to see here, just the Premier of one of Canada's most populous and economically significant provinces bowing down to Donald Trump already. On Monday, Trump made headlines after he threatened to slap a 25% tax on Canadian goods when he returns to the White House. In his usual style, Trump framed the tariffs as punishment to Canada (as well as China and Mexico) for illegal immigration and the American fentanyl epidemic.  His reasoning is obviously another one of Trump's populist bullying strategies and another way to spark even more hateful anti-immigrant rhetoric in Canada. But let's make one thing clear, these tariffs would absolutely cripple the Canadian economy. I am no economist, but a 25% markup on everything we sell to our biggest trade partner smells like a recession. In a now-deleted tweet posted on X Tuesday, Danielle Smith appeared to show support for Trump's tariff threat.  If you don't know anything about Danielle Smith, all you need to know is th...

Pierre Poilievre's Deafening Silence on Abortion

Image
As Pierre Poilievre, leader of Canada's Conservative Party, prepares for a potential shot at the prime ministership, one glaring issue has remained conspicuously absent from his public statements: abortion. While the debate over reproductive rights has become a flashpoint in American politics, Poilievre’s deflection on the subject has raised questions about his true stance, his political strategy, and his ability to lead on issues that matter deeply to Canadians. Since the 1988 Supreme Court decision in R. v. Morgentaler , which struck down Canada's restrictive abortion laws, the right to choose has been protected as a constitutional right. However, while abortion is legal, it remains an ongoing cultural and political battleground. Public opinion is divided, with some arguing for stronger protections for reproductive rights, while others, particularly among conservative and religious communities, continue to push for restrictions. For years, conservative leaders in Canada, part...

Trump Values Loyalty, and Pierre Poilievre is Ready to Deliver

Image
As Donald Trump sets his sights on the Canadian election, one thing is crystal clear: loyalty is his currency, and Pierre Poilievre is ready to pay up. The former U.S. president, whose tenure was marked by divisive policies, economic disruption, and a flair for populist rhetoric, seems to have found in Poilievre the perfect political ally—someone who values loyalty above all else, even if it means overlooking the well-being of the Canadian people.  Trump's Economic Sabotage to Boost Poilievre’s Chances Yesterday, Donald Trump announced on Truth Social his plan to impose a staggering 25% tax on Canadian imports once he’s back in office, a move that fits squarely into his broader strategy of economic disruption aimed at destabilizing Canada. By launching an aggressive tariff war against Canadian goods, Trump seeks to cripple key sectors of the Canadian economy, raising prices for consumers, hurting businesses, and causing economic uncertainty. This deliberate economic sabotage, remin...

The Weaponization of National Symbols: How Conservative Extremists Are Distorting the Maple Leaf

Image
In recent years, the Canadian flag—a symbol of national unity, peace, and inclusivity—has increasingly become a focal point for a more divisive and toxic political discourse, particularly among certain factions of the conservative movement. While the flag itself is a powerful emblem of Canadian identity, freedom, and multiculturalism, it has been co-opted by extremists and right-wing populists to promote ideologies rooted in hate, exclusion, and division. This troubling trend raises important questions about the integrity of national symbols and the dangers of politicizing them to advance narrow, often hateful agendas. A Symbol of Unity - Until Now Adopted in 1965, the maple leaf flag was adopted to symbolize Canada's unique independent identity as a country that embodies diversity and inclusivity. As the adoption of the Canadian flag coincided with Pierre Trudeau's reign, the iconic red maple leaf came to represent the country's values of unity, peace, and multiculturali...

Doug Ford's Healthcare Crisis: A Thinly Veiled Push for Privatization

Image
Ontario’s healthcare system is in crisis—there’s no denying it. Long wait times, overcrowded hospitals, an understaffed workforce, and overwhelmed emergency rooms have left patients and healthcare workers frustrated and exhausted. Rather  than responding with meaningful reforms that address the root causes of these issues, Premier Doug Ford seems to be using the crisis as an opportunity to quietly push for the privatization of healthcare services in the province. M ake no mistake, this is not a solution to Ontario’s healthcare woes—it's a dangerous political maneuver that risks dismantling the very principles of universal, publicly funded healthcare that Ontarians hold dear. A Crisis Manufactured for Privatization? In July of 2024, the Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA) announced, based on data from the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), that Ontario's shortage of nurses is worsening, with only 651 registered nurses (RNs) per 100,000 people. This is the lowest...

Canadian Conservatives are Shifting Further Right, Veering Into Extremism

Image
Canadian Conservatives are Shifting Further Right, Veering Into Extremism In recent years, Canada’s conservative political landscape has undergone a significant transformation. Once known for its pragmatic and often centrist approach, the Progressive Conservative Party has increasingly embraced more radical and divisive rhetoric. As the party shifts further right than ever before, this ideological drift is not only undermining its credibility but also threatening the very values that have long defined Canadian society.  A New Era of Polarization Under the leadership of Pierre Poilievre, who became Conservative leader in 2022, the party has moved decisively away from its more moderate roots. While Poilievre’s rise has been celebrated by some conservative circles, it has also emboldened more extreme elements within the movement. His populist, anti-establishment messaging resonates with voters frustrated by economic inequality, cultural shifts, and perceived government overreach. Howe...

Pierre Poilievre Threatens Core Canadian Values

Image
Pierre Poilievre, the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, often finds himself at odds with core values that have historically defined Canadian identity. While Poilievre’s supporters argue that his approach reflects a more pragmatic, fiscally conservative vision for Canada, we contend that his populist, anti-establishment rhetoric and focus on reducing the size of government do not align with the more progressive, inclusive vision that has historically been central to Canada’s identity.  In 1968, Pierre Trudeau was elected as Prime Minister of Canada. Over the next 8 years, he would transform the country socially and politically, creating the modern Canadian identity that still persists. His vision of "core Canadian values" was deeply connected to Canada's ongoing commitment to individual rights, multiculturalism, national unity, and liberal democracy. In 1971, he established the Multiculturalism Act, the first of its kind in the world, whose  primary objectives in...

Pierre Poilievre, Trumpism, and the Normalization of Fascism

Image
Pierre Poilievre appears to be "Canadianizing" Donald Trump's populist yet, albeit, successful campaign playbook. This is not news, as it has been clear since Poilievre's meteoric rise to the leadership of the Conservative Party that this was the plan all along. In the months leading up to the election, Donald Trump was often characterized as a "Fascist" akin to the likes of Adolph Hitler. Those who made those allegations have received a lot of pushback, but their accusations of Trump's views are far from unwarranted. Pierre Poilievre does not get compared to Hitler, rather, he is often compared to Trump. Unfortunately, this comparison, especially after a successful election in the United States, almost comes across as a compliment for CPC supporters. Let's take a moment to examine these similarities.  Many people do not know that Hitler came to power legally, through democratic institutions. In a time of great crisis and economic instability, Hitler...
